On Saturday before the kickoff of the Alabama-LSU game, the ‘Baby Trump’ balloon was stabbed by a protester.
The man stabbed the balloon at Monish Park.
Posts shared on social media featuring a man doing a live record shortly before kickoff. In the live stream, he stated that he was “going down here to make a scene…y’all watch the news….I’m shaking I’m so mad right now. I’m fixin’ to pop this balloon. Stay tuned. It should be interesting.”
Jim Girvan, an organizer of the balloon protests, told the Associated Press that the man charged the balloon with a knife and cut an 8-foot-long gash in the back. Girvan said the unidentified man was arrested.
The man wearing an Alabama Crimson Tide shirt was screaming at the organizers of the Donald Trump protest as police handcuffed him and led him off. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County jail and charged with criminal mischief.
The ‘Baby Trump’ balloon was brought to Tuscaloosa Saturday to protest the presence of Donald Trump at the game. Earlier in the week donors raised $4,000 to rent the balloon.
The organization responsible for Baby Trump said they weren’t upset over the balloon being stabbed, “We have 6 [Baby Trump balloons] and will persist to resist the Liar-in-Chief,” a spokesperson said.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by a Trump supporter named Hoyt Hutchinson to cover restitution for the balloons attacker. The campaign says that the man faces “felony criminal mischief after deflation of the disrespectful baby trump balloon. Hoyt made sure our beloved president didn’t have to see this disrespectful balloon on the streets of town today!!”
