On Thursday, Donald Trump claimed that the reason he always looks so orange is due to energy-efficient light bulbs. His claim that the lightbulbs are the reason his skin appears to be orange was just one of several bizarre claims Trump made about green energy and climate conservation during remarks he made at an event held in Baltimore where Trump is extremely unpopular.
“What’s with the lightbulb?” Trump asked at the beginning of an environmental rant. He went on to describe energy-efficient light bulbs as “many times more expensive than that old, incandescent bulb that worked very well” and “the lights no good.”
“The bulb that we’re being forced to use, number one, to me, most importantly, I always look orange,” he said as the crowd burst into laughter.
“People said what’s with the light bulb? I said here’s the story, and I looked at it: The bulb that we’re being forced to use — No. 1, to me, most importantly, the light’s no good. I always look orange,” Trump added.
Trump has often been described as “looking orange,” The hue of both his skin and hair are often the source of jokes for his critics.
Trump went on to state that he wasn’t the only one who appeared orange. He told the crowd that they took on an orange tone under the lights as well.
The hue of Trump’s skin is something even the White House has addressed.
The official statement from the White House is that Trump’s “glow” is the result of “good genes,” according to a senior administration official who would speak only on the condition of anonymity.
“And, O.K., a little powder — a translucent one, not a bronzer — which the president applies himself before television appearances,” the official said.
For some odd reason, light bulbs have been a common target for Trump, who has repeatedly used them as a symbol to criticize energy and environmental restrictions.
Federal regulators within the Trump administration have lifted energy efficiency regulations for several common types of light bulbs. Critics state that they believe that it is the Trump administration latest attacks on efforts to combat climate change and energy use.
The Trump administration claims that the overturned regulations that were put into place by the Obama administration were set to take effect in January, would cause “prices for light bulbs to skyrocket to untenable levels.”
Environmental groups argue that ending the regulations will result in higher utility bills for Americans and the production of more electricity by greenhouse-gas emitting power plants.
