Meet Tony Tinderholt, a Tea Party extremist, who has put forth a bill in Texas that if passed would have women charged with murder and facing the death penalty if she has an abortion in the state of Texas.
Tinderholt is sitting on his “high horse” and believes he has the right to judge women for making a heartbreaking decision that is in the best interest of their health and lives. He condemns women for deciding what is best for their own bodies while his past is riddled with bad decisions and actions.
I was raised up with the old adage that you never judge others if you have “skeletons in your closet.” Tinderholt has a whole dang army of skeletons that disqualify him from judging anyone.
Before Tinderholt moved to Texas he was an equal partner in a daycare business. He ran the daycare with his now ex-wife and another business partner. Tinderholt’s wife was a drug addict. She and the other partner embezzled from the daycare to support their acid, cocaine and crack habits.
The daycare became insolvent and Tinderholt filed for bankruptcy avoiding all of his outstanding debts. During the time the daycare was operating Tinderhollt knew his wife was caring for the children under the influence of illegal drugs despite that he signed over his share and left her in complete control of the daycare and in charge of the children’s care. He cared more about getting out from under the failing business than protecting the children that parents were trusting him to protect.
Later, while working as a manager of a Fort Worth bar, Tinderholt allowed an underage employee to drink alcohol while on the job. The employee was clearly intoxicated, but Tinderholt saw no reason to stop him from driving home. The employee was involved in a car accident that resulted in him being seriously injured.
Tinderholt has been married not once, not twice, but is currently on his fifth marriage. After his divorce from his first wife, Ann Johnson, Johnson was granted a restraining order after Tinderholt threatened her, caused bodily harm and destruction of property.
In 2014, Tinderholt’s campaign was filled with xenophobic and violent campaign messages. He hangs out with anti-immigration militia groups and believes that Americans should be armed and ready to kill Mexicans at the border. He believes bullets are the only way to stop immigrants from taking “free stuff” and “thieving.” He states that his answer to the “Immigration crisis” is “people are going to die and that’s the only thing that is going to stop migrants from taking the lifeblood of our country.”
He even states that he has a plan to “invade Mexico.”
It is also believed that Tinderholt embezzled more than $15,000 in campaign funds from his own campaign. On top of the missing $15,000 in funds his own campaign records showed that he made payments to himself out of campaign funds for what he labeled “campaign expenses” an act banned by the ethics commission. He also could not explain why he gave thousands of dollars to his wife’s staffing company out of campaign funds.
In 2015, Tinderholt filed a complaint about a judge who permitted Texas’ first same-sex marriage. Tinderholt did all he could to stop a woman, who was dying of ovarian cancer, from marrying her same-sex partner.
Not only was Tinderholt’s stand on the situation heartless he filed his handwritten complaint every way, but the right way.
First Tinderholt complained about the wrong judge then he proceeded to apply the law the wrong way in his complaint, but even if he had applied the law correctly his stand would still have been wrong.
In summarizing the entire embarrassing affair, the women’s attorney had this to say:
“It’s a shame that someone who’s taken on the responsibility of writing our laws has so much misunderstanding of the law,” Thompson said.
Tinderholt also has a habit of lying about his work history. He has repeatedly lied about his occupation status and employment history. Tinderholt claimed to be the Vice President of Education at Ancora Education. Yet, in reality, Tinderholt had not worked at Ancora since December 31, 2013. His campaign continued to list him as an Ancora employee in 2015 until this lie was pointed out as untrue during the campaign.
Tinderholt’s voting history shows that he has repeatedly voted against legislation that protected the rights of women and children. Here is a list of some of the legislation Tinderholt was opposed to from lasix to buy in the uk:
SB 17 – Although Tinderholt voted to continue studying maternal mortality, bills like this one are passed to overlook the inaction politicians are doing instead of providing better health care for mothers to reduce deaths when giving birth.
HB 2032 – Tinderholt voted against increasing the criminal penalty for sexual offenses committed on public transportation.
HB 189 – Instead of empowering survivors, Tinderholt voted against a bill to increase the statute of limitations for offenses against sexual predators.
HB 240 – Massage parlors are occasionally hubs for sex trafficking and prey on women and underage children. This bill fought to hold landlords responsible for alleged prostitution activity in businesses but was voted against by Tinderholt.
HB 3655 – Providing grants to encourage counties to utilize GPS monitoring in cases involving family violence as a tool to deter future violence, but Tinderholt voted against it.
HB 525 – This bill would require offenders who are on their 3rd conviction to register on a domestic violence database for anyone to pull up online, but was opposed, again, by Tinderholt.
HB 1036 – According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, “for every 100,000 women in Texas, about 20 die from breast cancer.” This bill allowed coverage for breast cancer screening procedures under certain health benefit plans to reduce the unfortunate tragedy, but Tinderholt voted against it.
HB 2813 – Lastly, Tinderholt was absent for the vote on a health benefit plan coverage for ovarian cancer screening. However, knowing his long history on legislature involving women, it’s not hard to determine how it would have gone if he had been there.
HB 1729 – Would allow people to donate a dollar toward processing sexual assault evidence when they renew their driver’s license.
Whether Tony Tinderholt’s has a strong dislike for women or he lacks compassion is not crystal clear, but what is clear is Tinderholt continues to endanger women by voting against legislation to help them. His push to have women who have abortions to be sentenced to the death penalty is just more evidence that Tinderholt is not working to ensure the women of Texas are safe
