Stephanie Winston Wolkoff has handed over a bundle of documents to the attorney general of Washinton D.C.
Wolkoff was subpoenaed last month for documentation connected to Donald Trump’s inauguration, which she did the majority of planning for the $107 million event. For months now Trump’s inauguration has been under investigation after it was revealed that foreign nationals were trying to find ways to donate.
Reportedly, one individual scammed a foreign donor, who was wanting a front-row seat at the event. Officials are also investigating the fact that the inauguration raised more money than any committee in history, but spent very little of it.
“The latest subpoena appears to be probing potential self-dealing by the Trump Organization and members of the president’s family, according to two people familiar with the investigation,” wrote Emily Fox of Vanity Fair.
Wolkoff gave authorities no issues and handed over all the requested documents by the July 28 deadline. The information she has handed over could very well reveal whether the Trump Organization was scoring benefits on the side.
“The attorney general appears to be particularly interested in payments being made through the inaugural committee to Trump-owned businesses, and whether there was a fair bidding process for contractors,” Fox wrote.
Wolkoff won’t address the information that she handed over because she says she is bound by a non-disclosure agreement.
“If the [Presidential Inaugural Committee] wants to release me from this obligation, I would be able to speak freely without the fear of legal or financial repercussions,” she said in a statement. “Otherwise, I am regrettably unable to provide substantial comment.”
It appears that Wolkoff had concerns about Trump’s self-dealing while she planned the inauguration.
“Wolkoff’s concerns over how the money was being spent, whether or not the Trumps were self-dealing, and if the Trump kids had their dad’s best interests at heart were grave enough that she called Cohen in the midst of it to air her grievances. Cohen, true to form, recorded the phone call with his friend,” writes Fox.
Wolkoff is said to have a uniquely close relationship with the Melania Trump and has spent the night at the White House in the past. As this investigation heats up, her loyalty to Melania may very well be tested.
The documents Wolkoff handed over were requested by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) through the House Intelligence Committee.
