According to the newly released Economist/YouGov weekly tracking poll, a majority of Republicans believe that Donald Trump is a better president than Abraham Lincoln.
The poll shows that fifty-three percent of Republicans believe Trump is a better president than Lincoln, while 47 percent chose Lincoln as a better leader.
When it comes to the majority of Americans, Lincoln overwhelmingly beats Trump, 75 percent to 25 percent, with the vast majority of Democrats and independents choosing Lincoln.
Despite Trump’s many controversies and the ongoing impeachment hearings, Trump continues to have a strong approval rating among Americans.
The Economist/YouGov poll found that “87 percent of those in the GOP either somewhat or strongly approve of the job he’s doing as president.”
Trump has repeatedly bragged about his “popularity” among his party and compared himself to Lincoln.
“You know, a poll just came out that I am the most popular person in the history of the Republican Party,” Trump stated back in July.
“Beating Lincoln,” Trump added, without sharing exactly what poll he was referring too. “I beat our Honest Abe.”
The new poll surveyed 1,500 Americans from Nov. 24 to Nov. 26. Its margin of error is 2.8 percentage points.
The poll caused some pretty hilarious responses on social media.
“53% of Republicans apparently don’t even know who Abraham Lincoln was…,” wrote Billy Baldwin.
