On Sunday, Barbara Res, the former vice president of the Trump organization predicted that Donald Trump will either resign or make some type of deal during the impeachment process rather than face removal from office. She stressed that he “does a lot to save face.”
Last month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump in connection to a whistleblower report connected to Trump’s July 25 phone call with the president of Ukraine. In the phone call, Trump pressured President Zelensky into investigating his political rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
Res appeared on CNN on Sunday and host Brian Stetler asked her if she felt that Trump was “unfit for office.”
“I do yes,” Res responded, “but I thought that when he was running and not necessarily for the mental reasons that they talk about, but because he didn’t have the experience. Lots of different things.”
Res was then asked how she sees Democrat’s impeachment ending and she predicted that Trump resigns or makes a deal to avoid being impeached.
“I think that he does a lot of things to save face,” she explained. “I could give you examples, but we don’t have time. But there are some things he can’t control and he’s not at the point where he can control this, he can’t do anything about this.”
“It would be very, very, very bad for him to be impeached,” Res added. “I don’t know that he would be found guilty, but I don’t think he wants to be impeached. I think that’s what this panic is about. My gut tells me he’ll leave office, he’ll resign, or make a deal even, depending on what comes out.”
Trump and his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani have crafted a handful of narratives to try and explain away Trump‘s actions all the while denying any wrongdoing.
While appearing on Fox News on Sunday, Giuliani told host Howard Kurtz that Trump did “nothing wrong.” He insisted that “I mean, the fact is, the president of the United States has every right to ask countries to help us in a criminal investigation that should be undertaken.”
Trump and Giuliani have done all they can to try and turn the focus away from Trump’s wrongdoings and onto Joe Biden and his son, but so far those efforts have failed.
