Donald Trump has confided in friends and his closest allies that he is worried that impeachment will stain his legacy.
According to a source, on Friday during a phone call with House Republicans, Trump shared why he doesn’t want to be impeached. Trump stated that it is a “bad thing to have on your resume.”
According to Axios, two other sources on the call have confirmed Trump’s statements. One of the sources added that they recalled Trump phrasing it as “you don’t want it [impeachment] on your resume.”
After making the statement about impeachment Trump added “But it’s going to make Kevin speaker,” these sources said, a reference to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s upside.
These two Trump quotes might seem unimportant, but individuals who have talked to Trump openly about impeachment say the quotes perfectly describe how Trump feels about the situation.
Reportedly part of Trump believes that the Democrat’s attempts to remove him could get him re-elected, but an even bigger part of him fears he will be the impeached president. Being impeached is something that his over-inflated ego cannot live with.
Trump’s closest advisers, both inside and out of the White House, have told him that he will most likely be impeached by the House of Representatives, but they also believe there is little chance it will pass the Senate.
One source close to Trump stated that in the last couple of days Trump has shown that he is not in denial that the House will most likely impeach him.
Trump is reportedly obsessed with winning the 2020 election. He has already spent more than $10 million on ads attacking Joe Biden and Democrats that support impeachment.
