On Thursday, a Hamilton County jury convicted Dallas Frazier, 29, of assault. Frazier punched an anti-Trump protester repeatedly in the head outside of a Trump rally back in August.
According to the criminal complaint, Frazier of Georgetown, Kentucky, got out of his pickup Trump and attacked Mike Alter, 61. Alter was on the sidewalk protesting Trump’s visit. Trump was scheduled to appear at the U.S. Bank Arena, which is now known as the Heritage Bank Center, later that day.
Frazier refused to speak with the media after his conviction. During the hearing, Judge Brad Greenberg requested a victim’s impact statement. Frazier’s sentencing will take place on January 17.
Shortly after the assault, Alter told the media that the anti-Trump protest had been peaceful until Frazier pulled up in his pickup truck. Alter added that he had been standing with a large group of protesters on Broadway Street. He stated that occasionally shouts had been exchanged between protesters and Trump supporters, but that was the extent of ani issues until Frazier arrived.
Alter says that Frazier pulled into the parking lot in a red pickup and began shouting at protesters out his passenger side window.
“These guys pulled up in the pickup truck. Everyone was yelling back and forth,” Alter said.
The assault was recorded and later posted to Facebook by anti-Trump protester Scott Fantozzi.
The video showed Frazier getting out of his pickup, taking off his hat and taking a fighting stance;
“I was more questioning him” more than trying to provoke him, Alter wrote in a text message. “Like, really, you want to fight?”
Clearly a fight was exactly what Frazier wanted. He hit Alter three times and continued swinging as another protester pushed him away from Alter until police intervened.
“(I thought,) ‘What the hell?’” Alter said. “He started just whaling on my head. I didn’t go down, for what that’s worth.”
As police cuffed Frazier and led him off protesters began to chant “lock him up.”
Police documents state that the “suspect exited the vehicle, stated ‘you want some,’ then struck the victim multiple times in the face.”
