The video showed Jared Kushner, Eric Herschmann, and Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter, and a former adviser, talking about how the White House was getting ready to handle the rioting on January 6, the following day.
They were also questioned over a speech written for the former president and why Donald Trump had crossed out keywords. Ivanka Trump, who was given a copy of the annotated manuscript, commented that her father’s handwriting appeared on

The first two lines of the address, “Good Afternoon,” as well as the word “today” in the sentence that followed were crossed out. The speech was headed “Remarks on National Healing.”
The words “sickened” were scratched out from a different statement that would have said: “Like many Americans, I am horrified and disgusted by the violence, lawlessness, and mayhem.”
The entire paragraph that discussed the consequences for lawbreakers was likewise deleted.

“I am directing the Department of Justice to ensure all lawbreakers are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We must send a clear message not with mercy but with JUSTICE. Legal consequences must be swift and firm.”
The speech especially targeted individuals who had acted violently and destructively, with the phrase, “I want to be very clear you do not represent me. You do not represent our movement,” were crossed out.
The paragraph’s final sentence was also changed. The words “belong in jail” were crossed out and substituted with the phrase “will pay” although it was originally intended to read: “And if you broke the law, you belong in jail.”

Ivanka Trump responded to a question about the speech by saying: “It appears to be a copy of a draft of the remarks on that day (January 7, 2021).”
When questioned about the handwriting on the draft, she replied that it appeared to be her father’s handwriting.

Ivanka Trump’s husband, Kushner, stated in a separate interview that he had discussed the comments with others who concurred “it was important to further call for de-escalation.”
In a portion of an interview with the committee, Kushner said, “I don’t know,” in response to the question of why lines had been crossed out.
