White House insiders say that Donald Trump is enraged by the media covering the fact that he was taken down to the White House bunker while protests went on outside the White House gates.
On Tuesday when Trump had a bizarre photo-op with a Bible outside of a St. John’s Episcopal Church he passed giant banners labeling him a “Bunker B**ch.” The term trended on Twitter and was made into some hilarious memes and cartoons.
At the time White House officials stated that Trump was taken down to the bunker where he was kept for just over an hour. It is still unclear in Melania and Barron were escorted to the bunker with him.
Now in an attempt to save face, Trump is claiming that he only spent a “tiny” amount of time in a reinforced security bunker under the White House while protesters clashed with Secret Service agents outside. He now says he was not in the bunker for his protection, but so he could inspect the bunker.
Trump spoke by phone to Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade. during the interview, he claimed he visited the bunker in the daylight, not at night when protesters were clashing with Secret Service agents.
The New York Times reported that Trump was taken to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center Friday night, for about an hour. Other media outlets, all of which cited White House sources, confirmed that information.
“I was there for a tiny, short little period of time” and said he had visited the bunker “two or three times, all for inspection,” Trump told Kilmeade.
“And you go there, someday you may need it, but you go there, I went down, I looked at it, it was during the day, it was not a problem. And I read about it like a big thing. There was never a problem, nobody ever came close to giving us a problem,” Trump claimed.
