On Saturday, Donald Trump traveled to his private golf course in Virginia despite surging numbers of the coronavirus across the nation. His trip came just one day after he stated that he would remain in Washington D.C. during the weekend to “make sure law and order is enforced” amid ongoing anti-racism protests.
Trump has been repeatedly criticized for the amount of time he spends on the golf course. While running for president he claimed you wouldn’t find him on the golf course because he would be to busy working.
CNN has kept track of Trump’s golf excursions and reports that his latest trip to the golf course was the 271st of his presidency, which puts him at an average of golfing once every 4.6 days since he’s been in office. Barack Obama played 333 rounds in 8 years.
New coronavirus cases per day in the US hit an all-time high of 40,000, John Hopkins reported on Friday. Many states are seeing surging numbers especially states that reopened for business.
Many believe that Trump has contributed to the mounting numbers of COVID-19 cases by holding campaign rallies in “hot spots” and touting conspiracy theories about cures, such as injecting disinfectants.
On Friday, Trump canceled a planned weekend trip to his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course because of protests.
“I was going to go to Bedminster, New Jersey, this weekend, but wanted to stay in Washington, D.C. to make sure LAW & ORDER is enforced. The arsonists, anarchists, looters, and agitators have been largely stopped,” he tweeted.
When Trump arrived at his Virginia resort, he was greeted by protesters at the entrance holding signs that said, ‘Trump Makes Me Sick’ and ‘Dump Trump.” A woman walking her dog near the resort gate flipped off Trump’s motorcade as it made its way into the golf club.
