Donald Trump hosted a lavish party for his eldest son Donald Trump Jr’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle. The 51st birthday party held at Mar-a-Lago and was attended by family, friends and White House staff.
The New York Times reports that the party even had campaign sponsors. The bill for the event was paid for by Trump’s supporters, though the Times reports that the cost has not shown up on any campaign finance report yet.
Trump using campaign funds and Americans tax dollars for his own entertainment has become the new norm in the White House.
Campaign Legal Center official Brendan Fischer told The Times that it was just another example of the “illustration of the blurred lines between Trump’s presidency, his campaign, and his family’s personal and financial interests.”
One of the attendees at the birthday bash stated they’d never met the Trumps or Guilfoyle, but that he wanted “to have my name promoted” as a “sponsor” of the birthday party.
“This may not be illegal, but it is incredibly unethical,” Fischer added.
The party is said to have cost an estimated $50K. At least four families that donated to Trump’s campaign also pitched in tens of thousands of dollars for Guilfoyle’s bash.
The White House refused to comment on why Trump did not pay for the party himself.
