On Thursday, Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.”
Clinton, 40, shared that she has no interest in rekindling her friendship with Ivanka Trump. She adds that she sees the White House senior aide as “more than complicit” in her father’s “conspiracy theories, sexism, and racism.”
During the interview, which was conducted before Donald Trump’s positive COVID-19 test was made public, Clinton reminisced about her former friendship with Ivanka.
“I’ve not spoken to her since 2016, and I have no interest in being friends with someone who’s not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration’s, like, everyday collision of cruelty and incompetence,” Clinton told host Andy Cohen.
Clinton adds that she was in touch with Trump at the beginning of 2016 at the beginning of the White House race.
Chelsea and Ivanka’s friendship was well known, prior to the 2016 campaign that pitted their parents against each other. In the past, they have both publicly praised each other. In 2015, Chelsea stated, “there’s nothing skin-deep about Ivanka.” In 2016, Ivanka said that they “have great respect for one another.”
“I don’t think they’re the same by any standard, but I think she’s more than complicit as anyone who’s worked for him for so long by definition is,” Clinton said. “And I don’t want to be friends with someone like that.”
Clinton went on to blast Trump when Cohen asked her to take away from Tuesday night’s first presidential debate between Trump and Joe Biden.
“Donald Trump is still a racist, incompetent, cruel, miserable ghoul of a human being,” Clinton said.
Cohen asked Chelsea if there was ever a moment during the 2016 presidential election “where you wanted to text her and be like ‘hey, we’re friends — this is insane what your father is saying about my mom.’”
“We were in touch at the beginning of the campaign but it’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate — whether it’s their father or not — who is trafficking in racism and sexism and antisemitism and islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies,” Chelsea replied.
