CNN anchor Don Lemon let loose late on Thursday. The network host left no doubt about his position. As he declared his disdain not just for President Donald Trump but his faithful followers as well.
Lemon went so far as to reveal how the subject hits home in his own personal life. He revealed he’s even cut off the Trump supporters that were in his social circle.
“I had to get rid of them because they’re too far gone. I try and I try and I try, they say something really stupid and then I’ll show them the science and I’ll give them the information, and they still repeat those talking points.”
He likened Trump’s following to people suffering from drug addiction. A strong statement for him to make. As a leading figure in the main stream media. Lemon further explained his view:
“I had to get rid of a lot of people in my life because sometimes you’ve just got to let them go. I think they have to hit rock bottom like an addict, right? And they have to want to get help, they have to want to know the truth, they have to want to live in reality, they have to want to be responsible not only for other people’s lives but for their lives.”
Plus he goes deeper with the issue. While taking a tough love type of approach.
“It’s so sad. And I don’t know if after this I’ll ever be able to go back and be friends with those people because, at a certain point, you just say they’re too far gone and I’ve got to let them go. And if they’re willing to come back, they’re willing to live in reality, then I would welcome them with open arms. But I can’t do it, I can’t do it anymore.”
Back in January, Lemon faced intense backlash after laughing hysterically while his panel reportedly mocked Trump voters as illiterate “rubes.”
Don Lemon is no stranger to criticism of Trump supporters. Following Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention earlier in the year, Lemon said of Trump supporters, “They like the lies, one would have to. If you don’t like the lies, then you’re not a supporter. They like the shiny objects. They like the racism. They like the misogyny. They like all of it because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t support him.”
Plus he added, “I actually think you’re letting them off easy because you’re telling me that someone you know is a liar, someone you know is a racist, someone that you know is a bigot, someone you know deceives, someone you can never believe the truth that comes out of their mouths, someone who downplays a deadly pandemic, someone who thinks it’s no big deal that 180,000 people have died.”
Along with, “You’re telling me that the alternative is worse? What is worse than that?! There is nothing worse than that! … There is no evidence that Joe Biden would be worse!”
“There is no evidence that there would be lawlessness on the streets if Joe Biden was president. He’s not the president. This is happening on Donald Trump’s watch.”
And declared, “So there’s either a disconnect or cognitive dissonance going on where you have to believe that you made the right choice, because you just can’t somehow, in your mind, admit that you made the wrong choice, that this is a bad person, that he is a liar, that you overlook all of those things because of what?”
“Maybe you’re not digging deep enough in yourself. It’s not Donald Trump’s issue, it’s yours.”
In the past, Trump has called him ‘the dumbest man on television.’ No sign of a truce anytime soon.
