Wife of Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas has put both herself and her husband in the hot seat after text messages criticizing various decisions and political groups were leaked to the public.
As a long-standing activist for conservative ideology in America, Thomas was harsh on the results of the 2020 election that saw current U.S. President Joe Biden obtain victory over former one-term President Donald Trump.

In the messages, Thomas labeled Republican lawmakers who did not question or challenge the results “pathetic.” The conversation, which took place on November 10, 2020, shows a text from Thomas to Mark Meadows, who was serving as the White House chief of staff at that point in time.
In her message, Thomas expresses clear agitation brought about by a lack of Republican figures uniting together to stand behind Donald Trump and his unverifiable claims of election fraud.

Despite alleging since the results were released that Joe Biden somehow stole or rigged the 2020 election by way of widespread voter fraud, there has been no evidence to support such claims, and officials from all levels (federal, state, and local,) have repeatedly spoken out against such claims, assuring that the 2020 race was both fair and accurate.
“House and Senate guys are pathetic too,” Thomas wrote. “Only 4 GOP House members seen out in street rallies with grassroots… Gohmert, Jordan, Gosar, and Roy.”

By name, she references Republican representatives Louie Gohmert (Texas,) Jim Jordan (Ohio,) Paul Gosar (Arizona,) and Chip Roy (Texas.) Gohmert, Jordan, and Gosar would later go on to object to the certification of the 2020 election, whereas Roy would turn and criticize Trump following the January 6 Capitol riot.

The House select committee doing a deep-dive investigation into the Capitol riot and the events that led up to the event on January 6 has collected a total of 29 text message exchanges between Meadows and Thomas between November of 2020 and January of 2021. Repeatedly in the messages, Thomas wrote to press Meadows, urging him to not allow Trump to concede the election, and instead pursue efforts to have the results overturned.
In the wake of the unearthed messages, many have called for the resignation of Clarence Thomas.

Sarah Lipton-Lubet, executive director of the Take Back the Court Action Fund said: “given that Justice Thomas has already made known he won’t recuse himself from cases related to his wife’ right-wing activism, and the damning evidence of his wife’s involvement in this attack on our democracy, Thomas is clearly unfit to serve on the nation’s highest court. Clarence Thomas must immediately resign from his seat on the Supreme Court.”
Lipton-Lubet then went on to add: “If he refuses, Congress must move to impeach him. The integrity of the court, our judicial system, and our democracy as a whole depends on it.”
