New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo cracked political rival President Donald Trump earlier today. As Gov. Cuomo riffed on Trump’s display of the Bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
“The president held up the Bible the other day in Washington, D.C.,” Cuomo told at a news conference Wednesday. “Here in New York we actually read the Bible.” He added, “and there are some passages that I think are especially appropriate today.”
One passage he quoted read: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” The governor then moved to Mark 3:25, which reads, “If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
While adding, “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace and work to maintain it,” as he referenced another: “The seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
This followed a statement by Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, which broke ranks with President Trump. “The option to use active duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort, and only in the most urgent and dire of situations.” Esper concluded, “We are not in one of those situations now. I do not support invoking the Insurrection Act.”
Also the day after Trump trashed him in a series of tweets. He stated, “Yesterday was a bad day for the Cuomo Brothers. New York was lost to the looters, thugs, Radical Left, and all other forms of Lowlife & Scum. The Governor refuses to accept my offer of a dominating National Guard. NYC was ripped to pieces. Likewise, Fredo’s ratings are down 50%!”
And he stated, “NYC CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD. The lowlifes and losers are ripping you apart. Act fast! Don’t make the same horrible mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!”
That followed Gov. Cuomo taking him to task on CNN Monday. “The president wants to make it a reality TV show of God and country,” Cuomo said. “‘Call out the military and then I go to church and hold up a Bible.’”
Cuomo also took to Twitter and posted: “The president is calling out the American military against American citizens. He used the military to push out a peaceful protest so he could have a photo op at a church. It’s all just a reality TV show for this president. Shameful.” The so-called spirit of bipartisanship is nowhere to be found.
