On Monday, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick appeared on Fox News and suggested that “lots of” grandparents would be willing to die in order to save the economy for their grandchildren.”
“No one reached out to me and said, as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren? And if that’s the exchange, I’m all in,” Patrick stated during the live programming.
“My message is that let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living. Let’s be smart about it,” Patrick stated. “And those of us who are 70 plus, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country.”
“I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me — I have six grandchildren — that’s what we all care about. … And I want to live smart and see through this, but I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed. And that’s what I see,” he then added.
Patrick’s comments came Trump held a press briefing where he stated that the economy would be reactivated soon as his administration eases social distancing guidelines that were put in place despite health experts stating that social distancing efforts need to continue to combat the coronavirus.
