A photo showing Donald Trump meeting with top military leaders has been greeted with major criticism because no one who attended the meeting wore a face mask to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The photos show Trump and the military leaders socially distanced, but it does not appear they are 6 feet apart. No one at the table is wearing a protective face mask. Their decision not to wear the protective gear goes against the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has repeatedly advised that all Americans should wear facial coverings or masks in public to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
As a result of the positive cases within the White House circles, Dr. Anthony Fauci has gone into “modified quarantine” due to his potential exposure.
Lawrence Summers, the former director of the National Economic Council under Barack Obama, spoke to CNN on Sunday and stated that he believes that Trump held the meeting with military leaders maskless in the Cabinet Room instead of the Situation Room was because he wanted the meeting to be a photo op.
Summer’s added that doing so was dangerous because it put everyone in the room at risk.
Many social media users called out Trump and the military leaders for putting each other at risk especially at a time when the White House has reported several cases of COVID-19 including 11 Secret Service agents who have tested positive.
Mika Brzezinski, co-host of “Morning Joe” tweeted, “Idiots in the WH not wearing masks— sheer stupidity ——that has endangered the lives of everyone who works there.”
White House correspondent Kelly O’Donnell tweeted, “Sign of change at White House, Secret Service agents posted near the president now wear masks.”
“COVID-19 just slapped trump in the face to remind him it is still here as it attacked the West Wing. It does not discriminate. Did he think he was above it? Now he is requiring masks for everyone but him. He had a meeting with brass and still no distancing – no masks. Vanity!” tweeted Twitter user Beverly Hill.
Twitter user Twist posted, “When we win our country back, every one of those “top military officials” should be demoted for being such chickensh*ts of tRump that they didn’t wear masks when meeting with him. Their number one mission is to care for the soldiers in their command but risked getting ill.”
“President Trump’s meeting today with his national security team and senior military leaders. No masks. WH says all of them tested negative right before meeting. It’s my understanding that even if a person tests negative, they might have it. Any medical peeps know for sure?” tweeted Christopher Maloney.
Chris McConnell tweeted. “Ok, let me get this straight, trump was exposed to someone who tested positive for Covid-19 and then has a meeting with senior military and security teams without social distancing and no masks. What? Doesn’t he like these people?”
Matt Dragon tweeted, “Don’t suppose Putin dropped a hint on their recent call? “You know what would make you look strong? Meeting with your military leaders. But you can’t wear masks, they show weakness.”
