On Tuesday, Donald Trump claimed that the military will be looking into disciplinary action against Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.
Last week, Trump had Vindman and his twin brother ousted from the White House. Trump ordered both men escorted off of the White House grounds by security.
“That’s going to be up to the military, we’ll have to see, but if you look at what happened, they’re going to certainly, I would imagine, take a look at that,” Trump stated before adding, “the military can handle him.”
Trump then went on to state that he wasn’t “happy” with Vindman or his twin brother Yevgeny. Yevgeny Vindman was a senior NSC lawyer but was removed from that position by Trump despite having nothing to do with the impeachment hearings.
Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified during the House’s impeachment proceedings about his concerns about Trump’s July 25 controversial phone call with the president of Ukraine. Vindman had listened in on that call.
“It turned out that what he reported was very different,” Trump said. “And also, when you look at the person he reports to, said horrible things, avoided the chain of command, leaked, did a lot of bad things. And so, we sent him on his way to a much different location, and the military can handle him any way they want.”
David Pressman, Vindman’s attorney spoke to the media on Friday and stated that his client’s ousting was clearly an act of retribution for the role he played in the impeachment hearings.
“There is no question in the mind of any American why this man’s job is over, why this country now has one less soldier serving it at the White House,” Pressman told reporters.
“The truth has cost LTC Alexander Vindman his job, his career, and his privacy,” Pressman added.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the Army stated that Yevgeny Vindman had simply been reassigned to the Department of Army. Kellyanne Conway echoed those statements on Monday saying Vindman’s brother had “just been relocated.”
On Friday, Trump also ousted Gordon Sondland from his role as the U.S. ambassador to the European Union.
There is no doubt that the three men’s oustings was a personal move by Trump to gain some type of revenge. Trump took the steps to get payback and chances are more people could find themselves in the same position soon.
