It seems that as we head toward the impeachment trial and the 2020 presidential race, a key voting bloc in U.S. President Donald Trump’s seemingly unwavering base of support may be cracking: White Evangelical Christians.
First, Christianity Today, an Evangelical publication started by the late Billy Graham, went all in on Trump and said he should be removed from office.
Now, a self-professed Christian has come out and blasted Trump’s so-called Christian supporters.
Esther Nieves lives in Chicago, and she is now making nationwide headlines for her bravery when it comes to equating Trump support with any kind of Christianity.
She used her voice to write an absolutely blistering letter to the editor in the Chicago Sun Times, which gladly published it. Mrs. Nieves writes:

“As someone born and reared in an Evangelical Christian household, where the teachings“History will point to the shameful moral stain of Evangelical Christian leaders and of congregations who succumbed to Trump’s shrewd hypocrisy,” she wrote.
“They will be depicted as having compromised their spiritual path, moral compass and prophetic voices to a charlatan. Let’s pray and work to change this reality, and to transform the nation into one of just, humane and equitable democratic principles and values.”
Nieves went on to say, “As someone born and reared in an Evangelical Christian household, where the teachings of Jesus centered on love of Jesus centered on love, reconciliation, and compassion, I reject the ill will and multiple layers of prejudice and divisiveness Donald Trump has wrought.”
“History will point to the shameful moral stain of Evangelical Christian leaders and of congregations who succumbed to Trump’s shrewd hypocrisy,” she wrote.
“They will be depicted as having compromised their spiritual path, moral compass and prophetic voices to a charlatan. Let’s pray and work to change this reality, and to transform the nation into one of just, humane and equitable democratic principles and values.”

Esther Nieves just might be correct. Whether you are Christian and believe that Jesus is the savior of all mankind or not, one glance at his actions in the Bible would tell you all you need to know about what he would have thought of a man like Donald Trump.
Further, Trump is no Christian, no matter what he claims to be. Hopefully, more Evangelicals see the error of their ways – or, at the very least, those who were always on the right side of history continue to speak out – and Trump’s main support base begins to crumble in earnest as we head into 2020.
