House Democrats have released new documents that were handed over by Rudy Giuliani’s indicted associate Lev Parnas. Parnas faces campaign finance charges.
The treasure trove of documents that Parnas handed over included screenshots of text messages sent through the app WhatsApp. The messages are between Parnas and Republican congressional candidate Robert Hyde. The text messages appear to discuss surveillance of Yovanovitch while she was in Ukraine.
“Needless to say, the notion that American citizens and others were monitoring Ambassador Yovanovitch’s movements for unknown purposes is disturbing,” Lawrence Robbins, Yavanovitch’s lawyer stated.
“We trust that the appropriate authorities will conduct an investigation to determine what happened,” Robbins said during an interview with USA TODAY.
The newly released documents from March appear to show that Parnas sent Hyde articles critical of Yovanovitch, to which Hyde responded, “Wow. can’t believe Trumo [sic] hasn’t fired this b****.”
Several text messages that were exchanged that suggest that Hyde hired people in Ukraine to physically monitor Yovanovitch. He referred to these individuals as “the guys over there.” In one message Hyde updated Parnas on Yovanovitch’s location in March of 2019.
“They know she’s a political puppet,” Hyde wrote. “They will let me know when she’s on the move.”
“Guess you can do anything in the Ukraine with money … what I was told,” Hyde also texted to Parnas.
The new documents also appear to indicate that both Giuliani and Parnas were aware that Yovanovitch was going to be removed from her position before it happened in 2019.
“He fired her again,” Giuliani texted Parnas back on April 23. Parnas then responded, “I pray it happens this time. I’ll call you tomorrow my brother.”
Yovanovitch now wants an investigation opened into if she was followed/watched while doing her job in Ukraine.
Hyde told CNN that there was”No effing way” he offered to harm Yovanovitch. He used his Facebook page to call the documents “laughable.”
“How low can liddle Adam Bull Schiff go? I was never in Kiev,” he wrote .n Facebook “For them to take some texts my buddy’s and I wrote back to some dweeb we were playing with that we met a few times while we had a few drinks is definitely laughable. Schiff is a desperate turd playing with this Lev guy. Have fun with your witch-hunt liddle Schiff.”
Hyde made a second post in which he offered his email password and phone to investigators, posting, “These are bad people, I’m out to expose their actions. Attack me all you want, get the facts first. The media is against me because they’re either complicit or have a hand in it, I welcome an investigation. I’ll provide my email password and hand my phone over, bring it on.”
It is expected that Trump’s Senate impeachment trial will begin on Tuesday. Trump stands accused of pressuring Ukraine to open investigations into his political rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Democrats believe that Trump withheld nearly $400 million in military aid from Ukraine in order to pressure the country into opening the investigations, which would have benefitted him politically.
