The 14-year-old daughter of Senator Ted Cruz is being treated in the hospital for self-inflicted knife wounds.
In a statement released last night, Cruz’s representatives said: ‘This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.’
Caroline, 14, and Catherine, 11, are Cruz’s two daughters.
Just before eight o’clock on Tuesday night, Houston Police got a call to the family’s residence.
Caroline, who was 13 at the time, came out as bisexual in January and expressed her disapproval of a lot of her father’s political views. The family has not yet provided their own comment.
Caroline, the Texas Republican’s daughter, said in a video posted on her TikTok account that she enjoys the travel benefits that come with her father’s job, and she enjoys receiving candy and other gifts in the mail from the senator’s supporters, but she acknowledges some drawbacks to his political notoriety, according to the Dallas Observer.
“Some of the bad things are, I literally have to have security following me everywhere,” she said. “Like, if I want to go on a walk through the neighborhood, like to my friend’s house or something, I have to have, like, two security guards behind me the entire time.”
“Also, a lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance,” she added, “but I really disagree with most of his views.”
Her parents had also altered her clothes in a family photo for a Christmas letter addressed to supporters, according to the kid.
“On the Christmas card, they literally made my shirt longer,” she said, showing a selfie photo of her wearing a crop top. “This is how it’s supposed to look.”
Caroline’s video drew comparisons to Claudia Conway, the daughter of former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway,, after it went viral on social media.
Claudia, 17, has amassed a sizable TikTok following over time, mostly because of her liberal views. She has claimed that her mother’s profession “ruined [her] life,” referred to Trump as a “rapist,” and even stated that she intends to seek freedom.
One social media user recommended that these two teenagers create a caucus because of their evident disrespect for their parents’ conservative ideas. Caroline reacted with a less-than-enthusiastic “ok” to someone writing to her that her father is “awesome” according to the tweet.
Caroline’s newfound internet celebrity has been documented by a number of pop culture blogs. According to those outlets, a TikTok video of the Cruz family’s Christmas card went viral when fans commented on Caroline’s sad appearance.
Caroline is pictured with her parents and younger sister, Catherine, in one photo. She and Catherine pose with their pets, Snowflake, Topsy, and Marmalade, in the other. Caroline appears to be dissatisfied in both photos.
