On Tuesday afternoon House Republicans walked out instead of voting on a bill before the Veterans Committee that would have helped more than two million women veterans.
Rep. Mark Takano the chairman of the Veterans Committee, shared a video of Republicans leaving the room.
“My Republican colleagues had a seat at the table every step of the way,” Chairman Takano posted. “Instead of bringing forth meaningful, productive additions to legislation that will improve the lives of women veterans, they added toxic, partisan amendments – none of which worked to address how women veterans receive care.”
“By attempting to hijack a bipartisan bill backed by 14 Veteran Service Organizations- including 6 specifically advocating for women veterans, they have left these veterans behind.”

Republicans had attempted to attach poison pill amendments to the legislation. Reportedly, one amendment focused on VA daycare credentialing issues, another on veterans’ firearm possession rights.
This was Republican’s second attack on veterans in one day. On Tuesday morning several of these same Republicans, who are still loyal to Donald Trump, attacked Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman a Purple Heart recipient. Vindman was the latest individual to testify at the House’s impeachment inquiry into Trump.
Twitter users were quick to blast House Republicans for not standing up for women veterans.
