On Tuesday, Iran announced that dozens of individuals had been arrested in connection to the Islamic Republic’s accidental shooting down of a Ukrainian jetliner.
All 176 passengers aboard the plane were killed.
Iran has promised a full and open investigation into the tragedy. The plane was shot down with a surface-to-air missile.
Even though Iran has confessed to shooting down the jet Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani stated on Tuesday that the “root cause” of the tragedy was “U.S.’s actions.”
“It was the U.S. that caused such an incident to take place,” Tasnim, Iran’s state-controlled news agency, reported Rouhani stating.
The Iranian regime blames Trump and his administration for pouring gasoline on the fire with its decision to assassinate Iranian military General Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike in Baghdad back on January 2.
The Ukrainian jetliner was shot down by Iranian forces just hours after they launched ballistic missiles at military bases that housed U.S. troops. The missile attack was in retaliation for the killing of Soleimani.

The day the plane was shot down Tehran’s forces were put on high alert for a response from the U.S. The individual who launched the missile that took down the plane believed he was firing at a U.S. missile.
There were no lives lost in Iran’s missile attack. The Trump administration has dismissed the idea that Iran deliberately missed U.S. troops to prevent any future aggression or hostilities with the U.S.
According to a senior U.S. official, U.S. troops based in Iraq were given a “multiple hours” warning about the incoming Iranian strike. However, U.S. troops at the main base that was targeted by Iran have stated that they only had minutes to take cover. Some have stated that it was a miracle they made it out unscathed. One American commander was quoted as having said that Iran was “shooting to kill.”
