As Donald Trump pushes to reopen the country and does his best to convince Americans that the worst is over the coronavirus has invaded the White House. Donald Trump’s valet, Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary, Ivanka Trump’s personal assistant, and at least 34 members of the Secret Service have tested positive for COVID-19.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top medical expert on Trump’s coronavirus task force, has put himself in “moderated isolation” after being in contact with an individual that has tested positive.
The new cases come just after Trump’s cross-country visit after isolating at the White House. Trump reportedly made the trip to show Americans that the U.S. was recovering, but that message was lost when the pandemic hit the White House.
Despite the new cases within the White House, Trump is still downplaying the health crisis. Trump acted as if the White House was impenetrable, but not even nightly sanitizing could keep the virus at bay.
When the news spread that Ivanka Trump’s assistant had tested positive social media users slammed Donald Trump for pushing to lift restrictions and reminded the Trump family that the virus was just a “hoax.”
Many mocked Trump by calling the White House a coronavirus “hot-spot.”
Political host Bryan Tyler Cohen tweeted, “Just so we’re clear, at the same time Trump has decided that testing isn’t necessary for the American people, Trump’s valet and 2 of Pence’s aides and Ivanka’s personal assistant all tested positive, which was discovered immediately thanks to – you guessed it – daily testing.”
Jon Cooper tweeted, “First Trump’s aide, then Pence’s aide, and now Ivanka’s aide. All have tested positive for coronavirus. I’m sure glad I don’t work for the Trump White House — how about you?”
“So Trump’s valet…Pence’s spokeswoman…Ivanka’s assistant. In the military, we call this “bracketing”. It means the big booms are getting closer to their target. It’s a bad thing if you’re in the middle,” tweeted Fred Wellman.
Countess of Nambia tweeted, “Don’t worry Ivanka. It’s a Dem hoax. You’re fine. Go hug your assistant and show her you care.”
Ivanka and Jared Kushner both reportedly tested negative for COVID-19 on Friday.
