Ivanka Trump has suggested that if her father, Donald Trump does not win reelection in 2020 that she will not continue her advisory role in the White House.
Ivanka Trump, who is married to Jared Kushner who also plays a role in Trump’s administration. During an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation she stated that her decision to remain an advisor depended on the election and what was in the best interest of her three children.
“I am driven, first and foremost, by my kids and their happiness, so that is always going to be my top priority and my decisions will always be flexible enough to ensure that their needs are being considered,” Trump stated in the interview. “They will really drive that answer for me.”
She went on to call her work promoting employment and affordable child care “really energizing.” But she added that the day she walks into the “West Wing and I don’t feel a shiver up my spine is the day I’ve been here too long.”
Trump, 38, is a former fashion designer. She states that she is also motivated by the impact that she has in Washington, and offered a preference for “policy” over “politics” in areas such as childcare and criminal justice.
She has come under attack on several occasions for supporting her father’s most controversial policies, which include separating families at the U.S.-Mexico border.
During the interview, Trump was asked about her father’s impeachment. She shared that he was “angry at a process that is unjust”. Still, she added, that her father was “energized, as are 63 million-plus voters who elected him to office.”
Donald Trump broke from the norm when he took office and named Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, as senior White House advisors. Neither Ivanka or her husband had the experience to fill those positions. Before taking the role in the White house Ivanka was a fashion designer and Kushner ran his family’s real estate business. Once taking the position in the White House Ivanka shuttered her fashion company but continued to rake in millions in income from the Trump Organization as well as Kushner’s properties.
