During her Superbowl halftime show, Jennifer Lopez made a real political statement by featuring Latino children in cages singing the Bruce Springsteen hit “Born in the USA.”
Lopez shared the stage with Shakira and both women put their Latino heritage front and center.
During her performance, Lopez made a huge statement on immigration by featuring children sitting in cages. One of those children was Lopez’s 11-yeat-old daughter Emme.
Lopez appeared on stage in an American flag coat, which featured a Puerto Rican flag on the other side. Emme then began to sing “Born in the USA’ and behind the mother and daughter appeared to be a reflection of a wire fence.
Reportedly, Lopez wanted Emme’s performance to be a symbol of the “American Dream.”
Trump’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy has caused thousands of children to be separated from their families and locked in cages in detention centers along the Mexican border.
Emme is Lopez’s daughter with ex-husband Marc Anthony. There is no doubt the Emme got her immense musical talent from her parents.
Emme emerged from a cage for her mesmerizing solo. Emme’s performance received accolades. Even Kim Kardashian gave Emme a shout out on Twitter.
‘Can we talk about how amazing @Jlo’s daughter Emme sang and on such a huge stage like the Super Bowl’.
Khloe Kardashian sent out a tweet of her own writing, ‘How special to have this moment with your daughter? #SuperBowl.”
The best tweet, however, was a touching tribute made by her father, Marc Anthony, ‘Emme Daddy is so proud of you. You are my [heart] and I am forever yours.’
