Watching President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden together there is no doubt that they have a close and loving relationship. President Biden says that it was love at first sight when he met Jill.
Biden was 30 when they met and Jill was a college student. At the time Joe was struggling to overcome the loss of his wife and baby girl in a tragic car accident that happened in 1972.
In an instant, the young senator became a single father, who famously became known for riding the Amtrack from his home in Delaware to Washington D.C. at least five days a week.
Joe Biden says that he had no interest in dating at the time, but that when he first saw Jill that quickly changed.
“I fell in love with her when I saw her,” he said in an interview several years ago.
Jill shares that she was smitten with Joe, but not immediately. She was used to dating college boys so the thought of dating a senator with two small children was intimidating.
“I was a senior, and I had been dating guys in jeans and clogs and T-shirts, he came to the door, and he had a sport coat and loafers, and I thought, ‘God, this is never going to work, not in a million years,'” she said in an interview back in 2016. “But we went out to see “Man and a Woman” at the movie theater in Philadelphia, and we really hit it off.”
The couple quickly became inseparable. Joe is still as devoted to Jill today as he was all those years ago.
This week, Jill underwent what the White House has called a “common procedure” and Joe took time away from the busiest job in the world and stayed by her side.
When the news broke earlier this week that Jill Biden had been taken to the hospital for a mysterious procedure Biden supporters held their breath waiting for news.
On April 14 the White House confirmed that Jill had undergone a procedure which they labeled “common” and stated that she had “tolerated well.”
Last-minute medical procedures can be frightening and intimidating, but Jill did not go it alone. President Biden quickly rearranged his schedule, which was not a simple task, and went with Jill to the outpatient center. The first couple was at the clinic for a little over two hours.
When they returned to the White House Joe got Jill settled then returned to work while Jill took some time for herself. She had nothing on her calendar until the following week so she took the time off to heal.
The strength and closeness of Biden’s relationship have irritated many conservatives who attempted to claim their relationship was not what it seems.
One conservative, in particular, called the Biden’s marriage a “slick PR campaign.”
Fox host Tucker Carlson baselessly claimed that President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s 44-year-marriage was just a public relations stunt.
“The Bidens’ affection is totally real. It’s in no way part of a slick PR campaign devised by cynical consultants determined to hide the president’s senility by misdirection,” Carlson stated on air.
“No, not at all,” he added laughing. “Their love is as real as climate change.”
Carlson’s comments were brought on by a report by Politico that he widely mocked. The article in question covered Biden’s public displays of affection as well as the evolution of their marriage.
The article was titled “It just symbolizes everything’: Bidens bring presidential PDA back to the White House.”
Several Fox news programs also criticized the coverage that Jill Biden has received compared to what Melania Trump received.
