On February 12, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden made a trip to “The Sweet Lobby” a Black-owned bakery in Washington D.C. to pick up some Valentine’s treats for President Joe Biden. She shared an image of the moment on her Twitter.
“Dropped by @TheSweetLobby earlier to pick up some Valentine’s treats for the weekend,” Biden tweeted. “Shhh – don’t tell Joe!”
It wasn’t the macrons or chocolate that caught the people’s attention it was something much simpler than that…it was a blue hair scrunchie.
That blue hair scrunchie made women across the United States feel like things were once again “refreshingly normal” again.
“So, part of what I never realized I needed was a FLOTUS in a scrunchie,” one Twitter replied. That tweet received over 4,000 likes.
“Dr. Biden with a scrunchie ponytail buying chocolate is the normal I need from my FLOTUS,” tweeted Melissa Fitzgerald Aull
“The First Lady is wearing a scrunchie. She is truly of the American people. Thank you, Dr. Biden – we feel seen!” tweeted Brea Feigenbaum.
“I love everything about this picture, but especially Dr. Biden’s scrunchie.”
Other Twitter users appreciated the fact that Biden wore her relatable outfit to purchase her and her husband’s Valentine’s Day snacks from a Black-owned small business.
“Today, Dr. Biden, the First Lady of the United States, was in my neighborhood supporting a great Black-owned small business, Ya love to see it,” tweeted Charlotte Clymer.
Dr. Victoroa Austin tweeted, “
Dr. Biden also touched many Americans with her love for Valentine’s Day. On February 12 the first lady decorated the White House lawn with giant hearts with touching messages. The lawn featured large pink, red, and white hearts with words like “courage,” “healing,” and “peace” written on them. She signed the “healing” heart, “Love, Jill.”

“I just wanted some joy,” Dr. Biden told reporters. “With the pandemic, just everybody’s feeling a little down. So it’s just a little joy. A little hope. That’s all.”
Biden made headlines in late January for another kind gesture.
Biden brought homemade chocolate chip cookies to a group of guardsmen at the Capitol and personally thanked them for keeping her family safe. with cookies in hand for a group of National Guard troops at the Capitol to thank them for keeping her family safe. The cookies were a small token, but one that clearly came from the heart of a mother whose son had also served.
“I just wanted to come today to say thank you to all of you for keeping me and my family safe. I know that you’ve left your home states,” she said. “The Bidens are a National Guard family. Our son Beau was Delaware Army National Guard. He served for a year in Iraq in 2008–2009. So, I’m a National Guard mom, and when I saw … all that you’ve done and you left your home states and you’ve come here to protect us … I just wanted to say thanks from President Biden and my entire family.”
Biden shared that she did not make the cookies herself, but that they were homemade by the White House chef and she wanted to deliver them in person.
“I wanted to give everybody a cookie just as a small thank you for your service and your families’ service and all that you’ve done for our nation … I truly appreciate all that you do. The National Guard will always hold a special place in the hearts of all the Bidens. So, thank you. Thank you very much.”
Biden’s unannounced visit with the guardsmen was her first public outing as the first lady.
Earlier in the day, she visited Whitman-Walker Health, a nonprofit health center that specializes in LGBTQ and HIV care, in downtown Washington.
