The wildly popular show stole the hearts of the world for 5 years during a very successful run on HGTV. But it wasn’t only the show that captured out hearts, Joanna and the entire Gaines clan did as well. And there may be a few things you never knew about her that might surprise you.

She’s Successful Without Sacrifice
Joanna Gaines is a family woman through and through. She has 5 kids, lives on a massive farm with animals, and prides herself on her family focus. She’s been able to achieve this with a ton of businesses and work as well.
She truly is a woman who has it all. She has no sacrificed one ounce of her home life or her marriage to Chip to get ahead. She’s done it together with her family by her side. That’s truly remarkable.
Her True Passion Is Baking
Gaines has a talent for seeing what will work in certain spaces. She’s honed that craft over years of work at Magnolia and on Fixer Upper. However, if she had it her way, baking would be her job of choice.
She’s given dozens of interviews over the years, but every time she’s questioned on what she’d like to do most in life she has always gone back to baking. Joanna has said that has dreamt about owning a bakery since for years.
And believe it or not, she did just that! The Gaines’ opened one at the Magnolia Silos.
Not only that, but they even opened their own coffee shop as well. Is there anything Joanna and her family can’t do?
She Has No Design Experience
As with most jobs, experience is better than anything. The more experience you have, the more likely you are to succeed at what you’re doing. This is particularly true about Gaines.
Would it surprise you to find out that she has no design or real estate background at all? It surprised us as we had no idea! She was a communications major in college and in many interviews said that she had no design or real estate experience before the show.
Of course, as we all know, that didn’t matter as Gaines is one of the best known interior designers in the country, if not the world, today.
Her designs can be seen in tens of thousands of homes through her crazy successful line of products, and through the hundreds of homes she’s helped to re-do over the years.
Yes, She And Chip Actually Have An Amazing Relationship
So many people believe that Chip and Joanna Gaines’ chemistry is only an “on screen” thing. Not true at all.
In their own book The Magnolia Story they cleared the air about their relationship being a long-rumored, screen-only thing.
In the book they said that their relationship was actually better when the spent more time together. Which usually isn’t the case for couples as being individuals is just as important as being together.
It’s clear that they work beautifully together on the show, but that carries forward off screen and into their own home as well. It’s so refreshing to see reality TV couples in it for the long haul. They have been married for over 17 years.
She’s Very Low Tech When At Home
We all are attach to our phones these days. And I’d imagine it’s no different for Joanna Gaines, especially running so many successful businesses and brands.
But when she’s at home, it’s a totally different story.
Their farmhouse is from the 1890s and she’s said that it “doesn’t have the best wifi.” Gaines also said that they have cell phones, but they’re not used as much as other celebrities or TV personalities.
And what you might find most interesting is that they don’t have a TV in the house. Why is that a big deal you might ask? Well that means their kids don’t really have a finger on how big of celebs their parents are. Which is great and gives them the chance to grow up with a normal childhood outside of the public eye!
When she met Chip, she was broke
Many reports have Joanna Gaines’ net worth at over $10 million at this point, but her beginnings were very humble. Gaines did not come from money so everything she’s made she’s worked to earn. Nothing has been handed to her
She even revealed that when she and Chip were married, Chip was the only one with money to his name and it was barely anything, saying they were flat broke!
Having a net worth of over $10million must be quite the shock.
Surprise Announcement: They’re Coming Back To TV For More Fixer Upper Episodes!
The biggest news is for Fixer Upper fans right now. Less than a month ago Joanna and Chip uploaded a video to their YouTube channel.

That’s right the dynamic duo is back in action for another season of Fixer Upper! How did this all come to be?
Well the timing was right for them to get back on TV as they announced back in 2018 that they’d have their own network. And of course it’s called Magnolia Network. Once season 5 ended, the Gaines’ felt a hole in their hearts where Fixer Upper used to be.
So the Discovery Network came calling and pitched them the idea of having their own network. They said yes and the rest if history.
The best news is that the new season can be seen on their new network, much to the delight of their diehard fans. Personally, we cannot wait to see the new season and watch Joanna, and Chip, turn run-down into gold once again.
