While appearing on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” Kellyanne Conway stated that public health officials should listen to Donald Trump when it comes to the coronavirus despite the fact that Trump has repeatedly pushed false information about the health crisis.
Conway was repeatedly pressed to address mounting criticism of Trump sharing misinformation and complete lies about the coronavirus. Fox News anchor Sandra Smith noted that Trump has made comments that go against the guidance of administration health officials Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr, Deborah Birx. Smith asked if Trump is “listening to the advice of health experts that he has at his side?”
“He is and they should be listening to him as well,” Conway responded. She then suggested that the administration’s health officials have said things to the media that were not said in White House coronavirus task force meetings. She added that she and other White House officials sometimes “hear things for the first time on tv,” but then added this wasn’t “specific to any one individual.”
Throughout the interview, Smith confronted Conway with data countering a controversial claim that had been made by Trump. Those were shared in an ad shared on Facebook and Twitter. In the ad, Trump stated that “children are almost—and I would almost say definitely—but almost immune from this disease [COVID-19].”
Both Facebook and Twitter removed the post for breaking the social media site’s policies on misinformation.
