During an appearance on Fox News on Saturday evening, Lara Trump urged Americans living along the southern border to “arm up, get guns, and be ready.”

“I don’t know what you tell the people who live at the southern border,” Trump said. “I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready, and maybe they’re going to have to start taking matters into their hands.”
She went on to say something about migrants attempting to cross the border into the United States. “These people should never have come here in the first place,” Trump remarked.
She then stated that migrants attempting to cross the border into the US. “should never make this dangerous journey here.”
Trump was chastised on social media for her remarks, with some claiming that they could incite vigilantism.
Since the beginning of the year, there has been a substantial inflow of migrants coming at the southern US border.
Since Biden’s election, a record number of migrants have attempted to enter the United States through Mexico. According to The Washington Post, US police intercepted 180,034 migrants along the Mexican border in May.
Many Twitter users accused Trump of “inciting violence.”

Russell Foster for Texas tweeted, “This is dangerous. The former president’s daughter-in-law is calling for people to shoot immigrants. It’s worse after multiple mass shootings over the last few days in Texas & elsewhere. This could lead to an uptick in hate crimes across the country.”

Fred Wellman, the executive director of the Lincoln Project, says that Trump could now find herself in legal trouble for “inciting violence.”

He suggests that Trump may have committed a federal crime. Wellman cited “18 U.S. Code § 373 – Solicitation to commit a crime of violence” which allows prison sentences of up to 20 years for, “Whoever, with the intent that another person engages in conduct constituting a felony that has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against property or against the person of another in violation of the laws of the United States, and under circumstances strongly corroborative of that intent, solicits, commands induces, or otherwise endeavors to persuade such other person to engage in such conduct…”
