Mary Trump’s tell-all-book about the Trump family was published on Wednesday. The scathing memoir shares an inside look at the dysfunction family created by her uncle, Donald J. Trump.
In her book, Mary Trump portrays her uncle as being a “vicious bully” even as a young child. She writes that he paid someone to take his SATs, commented on her breasts, and tried to cheat her and her brother out of their inheritance.
A large portion of her book discusses the relationship between Trump and his three oldest children, Ivanka, Donald Jr, and Eric. She details Ivanka as her father’s favorite, who often, even as a teen, could be found sitting in her father’s lap while her father kissed her and pinched her cheeks. Ivanka she writes would often sit in her father’s lap while her brothers wrestled on the floor in front of them. She writes that Donald would kick whichever of his sons was pinned to the floor.
Trump has often shown publicly that he favors Ivanka while treating his two oldest sons “roughly” and often with “disdain” Mary Trump shares.
Many individuals have commented that his oldest son, Donald Trump Jr. often appears to be desperate for his father’s love. Many critics have attacked Trump Jr. on social media by telling his father will never love him.
Mary Trump, who is a clinical psychologist, also wrote about the scene of the Trump and her cousins coming to a family gathering at The House, his parents’ colonial mansion in Queens, New York. At the time of the visit, Fred Trump Sr. was suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
“My grandfather was having a bad day,” Mary Trump writes. “Shortly after Donald came in with his kids and Rob’s stepson. With the exception of Eric, they were all teenagers, the boys tall and chubby and wearing suits. Donald went to sit on the chair by the TV, and Ivanka climbed on his lap. The boys started wrestling. Donald watched the action from his chair, kissing Ivanka or pinching her cheek. Every once in awhile, he’d stick his foot out and kick whichever boy was being pinned to the floor.”
Mary Trump also shared hat Trump used to wrestle at times with the boys when they were much younger. She said the moments usually consisted of “his picking them up, throwing them on the ground and kneeling on them until they cried, uncle.” She adds that “as soon as they had gotten big enough to fight back in earnest, he opted out.”
While Trump was running for president many pictures surfaced of Ivanka sitting on his lap. Often his tendency of talking sexually about his daughter was brought up by the media.
Stories such as the time that Trump watched Ivanka Trump, at 16, co-host the 1997 Miss Teen USA pageant and he said to then-Miss Universe “Don’t you think my daughter’s hot? She’s hot, right?” were discussed.
Ivana Trump, the mother of Ivanka, Donald Jr, and Eric shared in her own book “Raising Trump” that Trump did not want his firstborn named after him. When Ivana brought it up Trump replied, “You can’t do that! What if he’s a loser?”
Despite his treatment of his oldest sons, both remain devoted to helping the family business and getting their father reelected.
