Megan Rapinoe has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump’s since he took office. Rapinoe has used her platform as the U.S. women’s national soccer team’s best athlete for the greater good. She has repeatedly used it to call out Trump.
On Tuesday, a new interview featuring Rapinoe was released and in it, she once again blasts Trump.
“And now you see obviously we have a white nationalist, I think, in the White House and the spewing of hate and the othering of the rest of the country has only led to more rife between people, and more despair, and more anxiety and more fear going forward,” Rapinoe said of Trump during an interview with Vice.
“There’s been nothing to erase Donald Trump’s base. It’s not like he’s giving them a bunch of jobs, it’s not like he’s made life better for them. He’s just given them this false reason why maybe they’re unhappy with their lives. There’s been no sort of path forward,” Rapinoe continued.
Host Anand Giridharadas then asked, “So, he uses racism to steal from them, to summarize.”
“Yeah, exactly,” Rapinoe said.
After winning the World Cup, Rapinoe dissed Trump by declining any future White House invitation extended by the current president if the team were to win the tournament.
“I’m not going to the f–king White House,” she said.
Many people Rapinoe have told her she should enter politics.
“I’m not totally shutting the door, but it seems wild,” Rapinoe said.
“I’m wholly unqualified for probably any position in government, but I have I have that little bit of humility that I can be like ‘you’re smarter, you can do this.'” Rapinoe added.
