During a state visit with Queen Elizabeth II, Melania Trump’s chief of staff was concerned that the family’s adult children would be an “embarrassment to the whole country.”
According to excerpts from Stephanie Grisham’s upcoming book, obtained by TMZ, her predecessor Lindsay Reynolds, who worked as the first lady’s top staffer until April 2020, was anxious that former President Donald Trump’s children would interrupt the formal visit by begging for attention.
“In early June of 2019, President and Mrs. Trump were invited to a state dinner in the United Kingdom hosted by Queen Elizabeth the II. All of us at the senior staff level would get to attend as well as meet the queen, Prince Charles, Prince William. Kate, Prince Harry, and the rest of the royal family. We were all beyond excited, but none more than the Trump children. It was the only trip in all four years that every member of the family was expected to attend including Javanka, Eric and Lara, Don Jr and Kimberly Guilfoyle his girlfriend and Fox News fixture, and Tiffany and her boyfriend. All of them wanted seats at the state dinner that the queen would be hosting, as well as the dinner at Winfield House,” Grisham wrote in her book.
“We are going to look like the Beverly Hillbillies,” Reynolds said, according to Grisham. “We’ll be an embarrassment to the whole country.”
Reynolds was outraged because every one of the former president’s adult children, including Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle and Tiffany Trump’s fiancé, wanted to go on Air Force One and attend the ceremonial state banquet.
“It was the only trip in all four years that every single member of the family expected to attend,” wrote Grisham, who took over for Reynolds in 2020.
In her book, Grisham also reveals that Melania Trump had a scathing nickname for Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Behind the scenes, Melania referred to her step-daughter and her husband as the “interns.”
The term wasn’t given to the pair because of their youthful vitality, according to Grisham.
“When I worked for the first lady in the East Wing, we had all come to call Jared and Ivanka ‘the interns’ because they represented in our minds obnoxious, entitled know-it-alls,” Grisham writes in a passage released by Politico. “Mrs. Trump found that nickname amusing and occasionally used it herself.”

Grisham also discusses how Ivanka and Jared, in her opinion, hijacked the White House’s first response to Covid-19. “There should be an address from the Oval” the president’s daughter insisted repeatedly during a heated White House discussion as the pandemic was just getting started, according to the former assistant.
Finally, Grisham inquired about the president’s specific words.
“She just looked at me, seemingly confused,” Grisham writes.
Grisham later recalls Mr. Kushner dominating a Cabinet Room discussion, despite the fact that he sat next to then-vice president Mike Pence.
“What struck me in that meeting was that Jared, who was sitting next to the vice president of the United States, commandeered the meeting and was calling all the shots,” Grisham writes. “As many times as, I had seen him behave that way with members of senior staff, that particular time made me uneasy because it was with the vice president. It was disrespectful, and I remember feeling both embarrassed and disgusted.”
The former press secretary, who also served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff for a while, claims the first lady concurred with her scathing evaluation of “the interns” on occasion.
“I had shared with Mrs. Trump many times my opinion that if we lost reelection in 2020 it would be because of Jared,” Grisham writes. “She didn’t disagree with me.”
