Melania and Donald Trump are used to the press following their every step, but it appears that Melania’s wedding ring is has created quite a stir that has actually been going on for years.
According to The New York Times, the pair married in January 2005 at Donald’s opulent Mar-a-Lago Palm Beach, Florida resort, which was undergoing a $42 million restoration at the time. Melania Trump wore a Dior gown with crystals and pearls. The dress earned her the cover of Vogue.
The Clintons, Billy Joel, and Tony Bennett were among the notable names in attendance. With Cristal champagne, steak tenderloin, and Grand Marnier chocolate truffle cakes, the event was a sight to behold.
Despite the fact that the wedding was sixteen years ago Melania Trump’s wedding ring still has people talking. The question critics want to be answered is if the ring is the real deal.
Melania Trump’s wedding ring is rumored to be worth $685,000, yet despite its glitz, many are perplexed as to why she rarely wears it in public. She wore it for her White House portrait, but it appears to be in her jewelry box otherwise.
It appears that the ring isn’t in Melania’s rotation for a variety of reasons. According to Gary Ingram, CEO of The Diamond Store London, “there are three reasons why she may not wear the ring in public. Firstly, if it doesn’t sit comfortably next to her statement engagement ring. It is also a substantial ring that is worth a fortune, so it could alienate voters who feel she is flaunting her wealth. Or, Melania may not want her rings to be a focal point in the press, so she doesn’t wear it in public.”
This isn’t the first time her gems have been targeted by critics. Donald Trump allegedly remarked in 2005 that he purchased her engagement diamond for a “bargain.” The ring was reportedly worth $1.5 million, but the former president only paid half that amount. In January 2005 he stated, “only a fool would respond, ‘No thank you, I want to pay a million dollars extra for a diamond.'” Trump was granted “no favors,” according to Graff Diamonds CEO Laurence Graff, who told Forbes in 2018. “He paid in full and right away for [the ring],” a source stated at the time.
Reportedly, Melania doesn’t just have a one-million-dollar engagement ring, but two.
“When Melania Trump got engaged in 2005, Donald Trump bought her a 15 carat, D Flawless, emerald cut diamond ring,” 77Diamonds managing director Tobias Kormind.

After more than 15 years of marriage, Melania no longer wears the diamond ring that the ex-president proposed with.
As a tenth-anniversary gift, Trump reportedly gave Melania a massive new ring worth about $5 million in 2015.
Despite the fact that the design is quite identical to Melania’s first ring, this one was far larger.
Melania’s ring was also from Graff, but it contained a massive 25-carat diamond and it is this ring the former-first lady wears in public on occasion.
However, according to Kormind, bigger isn’t always better: “It is significantly larger than Melania’s original engagement ring, but it is not D Flawless, which is the top and most coveted diamond quality in existence.”
Melania reportedly keeps the original engagement ring locked away for sentimental reasons.
