On Thursday as President Joe Biden and Jill walked across the grass towards Marine One, Biden suddenly stopped and bent down picking a dandelion for Jill before the pair boarded the helicopter for Georgia.
As the images of the moment were shared on social media users swooned over the romantic gesture.
When the couple reached Marine One, Biden lovingly placed his hand on her lower back, guiding her up the stairs.
Video of Biden’s small token of love was shared on social media where it quickly went viral. Social media users praised the president for “never forgetting to show your spouse every day how much you love them” and for the “refreshingly normal” moment. “It’s the little things that keep a marriage going,” one Twitter user posted.
RealAmerican.com tweeted, “I prefer Presidents who take the time to pick a dandelion for FLOTUS on their way to Marine One. Sweet.”
Twitter user Madam Vice President Harris is GOAT responded with: “President Biden picked up a dandelion for his wife, Dr. Flotus Biden, before boarding Marine One for Georgia. Chivalry is back in the White House.”
The majority of social media users that responded to the images and video saw it as the sweet moment that it was. Some even pointed out the major contrast between Biden and his predecessor. everyone quickly recognized it for the sweet moment that it was, and many were quick to point to the contrast with Biden’s predecessor, who rarely displayed any type of kindness or affection toward his wife publicly.
Reuters, for example, shared the video and referred to Biden as “ever the romantic.”
However, the sweet moment had its critics including Newsmax host Grant Stinchfield. Stinchfield freaked out over the romantic gesture live on air.
“Biden bizarrely gives Jill a dandelion.” Stinchfield says as he begins his strange tirade “All right folks, take a look at this,” he said. “And he stops and picks up—I think it’s a dandelion? But it’s a dandelion that hasn’t even blossomed into a flower yet,” Stinchfield whines, “like it gives everybody asthma.”

Stinchfield was incorrect about the flower, it had indeed already bloomed and was a puff of seeds that many love to blow on and make a wish.
Stinchfield then shares his concerns that dandelions are chaotic and evil.
“You blow it, it goes everywhere, and then everybody starts sneezing,” he said. He then goes on to state that he believes the moment was a “setup.”
“He picks up the weed and gives it to Jill in what I guess is supposed to be some kind of a sweet gesture. I say it was a planted dandelion there. Who knows?” he added.
Social media users quickly got the hashtag #DandelionGate trending.
Stinchfield tried to brush off critics by stating, “I think I’m pretty damn funny!”
Newsmax wasn’t the only media outlet that mocked Biden’s gesture Laura Ingraham and Raymond Arroyo of Fox news mocked the moment as well.
Arroyo mocked Biden for handing his wife “a weed” and accused him of “trying too hard.”

“When you have to work that hard after many years of marriage … something’s wrong,” he added.
