House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that she gave Donald Trump “a dose of his own medicine.”
On Monday, Pelosi had referred to Trump as “morbidly obese” during a televised interview.
“I didn’t say anything about the president. I gave him a dose of his own medicine,” Pelosi stated during her weekly press conference when a reporter asked her about her comments about Trump’s weight.
“I was only quoting what doctors had said about him and I was being factual in a very sympathetic way,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi stated that Trump was “morbidly obese” on Monday during an interview with CNN. She slammed Trump for his decision to take hydroxychloroquine, which is an anti-malarial drug, and health experts say there is no evidence it combats COVID-19.
Trump has repeatedly touted the drug and says he has been taking it daily for almost two weeks. The drug has some pretty series side effects related to the heart.
Pelosi stated that it was “not a good idea” to take the controversial drug because it can pose a risk for people with heart conditions and he is “morbidly obese.”
Trump reacted angrily to Pelosi’s swipe at this weight, calling her a “sick woman” with “a lot of mental problems.”
Pelosi shrugged off Trump’s comments and noted that Trump himself had made similar comments about women’s weight and has tried to pass his statements off as jokes.
“I said, he’s our president, we don’t want our president taking something that could be dangerous, as the scientists have said,” Pelosi said. “If he takes offense at that, well, I could take offense at a lot of things, but they don’t mean that much to me.”
