President Donald Trump is being called out for his unscrupulous use of government funds.
The president said to be planning a huge giveaway this month, with only days until November’s election.
More specifically, he plans on sending $200 Medicare drug discount cards to seniors. Those vouchers “would need to be used at pharmacies” — and “would be paid for by tapping Medicare’s trust fund.” That is where things get kind of sticky.
A problem is the cost of close to $8 billion will reportedly be funded by taxpayers. Some will surely take issue with the plan. Which is seen as ‘a shameless stunt’ utilizing federal funding for his own political gain.
As chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) claimed, “It’s a shameless stunt that steals billions from Medicare in order to fund a legally dubious scheme that’s clearly intended to benefit President Trump’s campaign right before Election Day.”
While an HHS official said, “This is a solution in search of a problem and a bald play for votes in the form of money in pockets.” It looks as these authorities clearly are not on the same page.
The report also argued that Trump will not just do away with an Affordable Care Act, but coverage for those with preexisting conditions. While that is part of this program, it does not preclude Trump and his administration from keeping such protections in place.
Trump had waived the Obamacare penalty back in 2019. That was up to $695 per adult. Many claim the president aims to override the Obamacare plan. And he has made it no secret he’s opposed.
Twitter users have unleashed on Pres. Trump as of late. One stated, “Trump is bribing seniors to vote for him.” Plus another added, “Too bad he kneecapped usps, huh?” Is there any justification for the move?
