A once close friend of Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn spoke candidly with the Washington Post this week.
The former friend told the media outlet that Cawthorn has lied repeatedly about the car wreck that left him partially paralyzed.
According to Cawthorn’s account of the accident, which happened back in 2014, a friend was driving and crashed the car leaving him to die “in a fiery tomb.”
Bradley Ledford, the friend in question, who gave the Post his first public comments about the accident, says that he pulled Cawthorn from the wreckage.
“It hurt very badly that he would say something as false as that,” Ledford said. “That is not at all what happened. I pulled him out of the car the second that I was able to get out of the car.”
Ledford goes on to state that is just one element of Cawthorn’s story about the wreck that is “rich in lies.”
Cawthorn also claims that he was “declared dead” after the wreck. That according to police reports in untrue. Cawthorn’s condition is listed as “incapacitated.”
Cawthorn also claims that before the accident he was preparing to start at the U.S. Nabal Academy. He even bragged about that in a campaign ad. However, Cawthorn had been rejected by the academy before the accident.
Cawthorn, 25, exploited the accident that took place when he was 18 to help bolster his successful 2020 House campaign. He is currently the youngest House representative.
Cawthorn also supported and pushed Donald Trump’s stolen election claims, which is another lie. Last month, Cawthorn did admit that he had no evidence to prove voter fraud,
“I think I would say the election was not fraudulent,” Cawthorn stated.
Cawthorn has been in a wheelchair since the accident. He drives a specially equipped car. That car has been linked to sexual misconduct allegations.
Over 150 former students at his college signed a letter late last year that accused him of “sexually predatory behavior.” Cawthorn denies the allegations.
However, dozens of people have described allegations of sexual misconduct while Cawthorn was at Patrick Henry College. So far four women have come forward and accused him of being aggressive, misogynistic, or predatory toward them.
The women saw that Cawthorn called them derogatory names in front of their peers, asked inappropriate questions about their sex lives, kissed and touched them without their consent.
His behavior was so out of control that two resident assistants would warn women in their dorm not to go for rides with Cawthorn. Cawthorn used his white Dodge Challenger to entice women to go on what he called “fun rides” with him.
“I got the info from other RAs to warn the female student body not to go on joy rides with him because bad things happened on those joy rides,” Giovanna Lastra, one of the former RAs stated.

One former student, Caitlin Coulter shared that she went on a drive with Cawthorn. She says that during the drive he asked invasive questions about the purity ring she was wearing. She said she refused to answer his questions and he got angry and dangerously drove her back to campus.
Other women told Buzzfeed that Cawthorn was often aggressive and misogynistic. One woman shared that he called her a “little blonde slutty American girl” in front of a table of her friends. He would also ask other male students which “race of girls gives the best blowjobs.”
BuzzFeed’s investigation comes after other allegations were made before the freshman representative was elected in November of last year.
Back in August of 2020, Katrina Krulikas, stated that Cawthorn had forcibly kissed her in 2014 when Cawthorn was 19 and she was a minor.
Krulikas says she went on a drive with Cawthorn and that he asked her if he had sex before. He then pressured her to sit on his lap. He then attempted to kiss her but she turned away. Cawthorn attempted to kiss her again this time holding on tightly to her face. She says she had to struggle with him to get away.
While campaigning in September of 2020, Cawthorn denied the allegations.
