Many theories and predictions have so far been made regarding the upcoming 2020 presidential election this November. With a major point of contention being contrasting views on mass mail-in voting.
Both Democrats and Republicans are going back and forth in public casting doubts as to the legitimacy of a prospective election win. President Donald Trump especially in recent weeks, warning of a potentially ‘rigged’ contest.
A new piece from Amanda Marcotte attempts to shed some light on what could be going on behind the curtain. That story titled, ‘Right-wing talk about “sedition” and the Insurrection Act has one purpose: Stealing the election.’
In the article, author Marcotte lays out a scenario in which right wing forces aim to eliminate countless mail-in ballots from the final count.
She refers to U.S. Attorney General William Barr as Trump’s ‘capo.’ A slang term for captain used in reference to the American mafia.
More specifically this appears to signify her classing Barr as a loyal soldier to Trump. Implying that he won’t hesitate to subjugate the rule of law in favor of the president’s wishes.
Plus Marcotte called him out after a controversial appearance at Hillsdale College as part of a Constitution Day celebration event. Barr took aim at members of his own department, suggesting there may be dissension in the ranks.
The author contends a ‘vast majority’ of protests over the summer ‘were peaceful.’ Which may not necessarily be the case. As demonstrated on Twitter by Editor-at-large of The Post Millenial Mr. Andy Ngo.
Such a claim consistent with an ongoing corporate media narrative. But residents and victims of the wide spread violence, vandalism and property damage would likely say otherwise.
Then she claimed there was ‘absolutely no evidence’ of plans to topple the federal government. That is patently false by many accounts, as evidenced here:
In addition, she cited AG Barr’s idea expressing to “federal prosecutors in a call last week that they should consider charging rioters and others who had committed violent crimes at protests in recent months with sedition.”
And she argued, “Should the votes in swing states be close — and every indication from polling is they will be — Trump will likely try to declare victory on the night of the election. After that, there will be a massive battle over how and whether to count all those mail-in ballots. Much of that will be in the courts, but there will be a street component, as well, as pro-democracy protesters will hit the streets to demand a full vote count, and election officials could face efforts to physically stop them from counting votes.”
Plus added, “It’s increasingly clear that putting down those anticipated protesters and stopping the vote count is a priority for Trump and his allies. So there’s increasing talk from prominent Trump allies of a possible “insurrection” by the left after Election Day, and the need to use maximum force to put it down.”
This notion operates under the assumption said protesters will assemble in a largely peaceful manner. Part of the issue now is making a clear distinction about when that line is crossed from protest to riot. As Marcotte had announced earlier in her attempt to minimize the pervasive violence, she seems to reject the possibility of riots. If not give an accurate description of what could actually take place.
Over the last few months, there was a reported divide between Republican officials regarding what would be considered appropriate action. Some calling for President Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act.
As defined under the ‘use of militia and armed forces to enforce federal authority‘, Section 332 reads:
“Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.”
Reports had circulated in June that Pentagon authorities were at odds with President Trump and his administration over invoking the act.
A recent report by Breitbart News told of certain counter measures allegedly put in place. Among them, “a massive network of well funded left-wing activists and progressive groups are training, organizing, and planning to mobilize millions of Americans should President Trump “contest the election results,” refuse to concede, or claim an early victory.”
Those efforts reported to be supported by Billionaire George Soros. One thing is clear: the stage currently set for spirited challenges from each side.
