Controversial Arizona Republican Representative Paul Gosar recently stuck the nerves of many at a congressional hearing for statements some have dubbed inappropriate.
During a House Committee on Oversight and Accountability meeting with two Customs and Border Protection agents, Gosar made some questionable remarks about a so-called “invasion” and individuals “changing our culture.” In the wake of those sentiments, many accused him of touting racist and white nationalist rhetoric in order to fuel the flames of prejudice and discrimination across the country.

However, speculation about his physical health has also arisen after the committee meeting with many pointing out that various movements, he made throughout seemed unusual and perhaps indicative of ailing health on his part.
“Joe Biden does have a plan,” Gosar said during the meeting. “His plan is to deliberately open our borders and cede power to the cartels.”

“What’s the answer to this mess for Biden and the Democrats? More Big Brother? More control? Even changing our culture? Instead of empowering these two brave individuals and the rest of the Border Patrol seated here in front of us with the tools they need to stem the invasion of illegal aliens, Biden sends billions upon billions to Ukraine to protect the border of another country,” Gosar insisted.
After the fact, a Twitter account managed by Democratic members of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability sent out a tweet that read: “Good morning and good luck to everyone except @GOPoversight members who are using today’s hearing to amplify white nationalist conspiracy theories instead of a comprehensive solution to protect our borders and strengthen our immigration system.”
Political director at America’s Voice, a liberal-leaning activist group that advocates very heavily for immigration reform, Zachary Mueller, said Gosar’s choice of wording was quite telling and quite dangerous, as such language is commonly used to bolster the points of white nationalists; even some who have committed heinous acts of mass violence.
“It’s clear to anybody it’s absurd that somehow migrants and asylum seekers represent a literal invasion,” Mueller said. “We only have to look to Ukraine and see the Russian invasion there to understand what a real invasion looks like. How do you stop an invasion besides with violence?”
