Ron Paul, a former member of Congress and accomplished doctor from Texas was hospitalized on Monday morning after suffering a medical emergency while he was doing a live-stream.
Paul is considered by many to be one of the top pioneers of the modern Libertarian movement. He has been a steadfast advocate for freedom. He has run for president three times…1988, 2008, and 2012.
He was live-streaming the latest episode of his show “Ron Paul Liberty Report,” when it appeared that he lost focus just before his mouth suddenly drooped to the side. Soon his speech became nothing more than muttering.
The Livestream was immediately stopped leaving widespread concern for his health.
Paul is seen as an icon by Libertarians for speaking out against the PATRIOT Act in 2001, a measure with nearly unanimous GOP support. Paul raised major questions about privacy violations. While in Congress he was dubbed with the nickname “Dr. No” because he would “never vote for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.”
Paul is the father of Rand Paul, a junior senator from Kentucky.
Reportedly Paul was transferred to a hospital and was being treated as a “precautionary” measure. He was said to be “lucid and optimistic.”
A couple of hours after the incident an image and brief message was posted to his Twitter page telling his supporters that he was “doing fine.” The post thanked everyone for their concern.
Many lawmakers and friends turned to Twitter to express they’re well wishes To Paul.
Prayers for @RonPaul and the whole family. Ron is a patriot and a great American who has brought healing to so many Americans in his career as a doctor,” tweeted Harmeet K Dhillon.
Rep. Justin Amash tweeted, “Prayers for @RonPaul May God watch over him and his family.”
“My prayers go to Ron Paul and his family. The man is such a hero of mine, I hope he’s okay,” tweeted Ryan James Girdusky.
David Hookstead tweeted, “Prayers out to Ron Paul and his family. Please don’t share the video. Nobody deserves something like that spreading all over the internet. Let’s hope everything is okay.”
“Please keep @Ron Pauland his family in your thoughts right now as they face the unknown,” tweeted Jo Jorgensen.
