Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced that she will be stepping down from her position as press secretary for Donald Trump. Sanders served during one of America’s most turbulent times politically.
Throughout her time as press secretary, Sanders tenaciously defended Trump no matter what insanity came out of his mouth.
Donald Trump announced Sanders’ departure on Twitter. In his tweet, he expressed his hope that Sanders would make the decision to run for governor in her home state of Arkansas.
“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,” Trump said. “She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!” Trump tweeted.
Sanders, reportedly, told her staff that she would be stepping down at the end of the month shortly before Trump shared the news on Twitter. It is unknown at this time who will replace her as press secretary.
Throughout her tenure, Sanders often came under fierce criticism from members of the press, who called her out for being dishonest on Trump’s behalf. Sanders then broke decades of tradition and did not give daily briefings from the White House. She has not given a press briefing in over 90 days. She stepped back to let Trump speak for himself, which was often a big mistake. Trump’s lie count is through the roof and his opposition in the 2020 campaign is gaining momentum.
As traditional White House briefings became fewer and fewer during her tenure, Sanders became an even closer and trusted ally to Trump. She joined him at key meetings on overseas trips, including the summits he had with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump often publicly stated that the media treated Sanders “rudely and inaccurately.”.
Sanders also turned to Twitter to share her news,
Sanders tweeted saying she is “blessed and forever grateful to @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to serve and proud of everything he’s accomplished. I love the President and my job. The most important job I’ll ever have is being a mom to my kids and it’s time for us to go home. Thank you, Mr. President!”
Sanders, 36, is the daughter of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. She worked on her father’s 2016 presidential campaign until he dropped out of the race then she joined Trump’s campaign. After Sean Spicer resigned in 2017, she was promoted to White House press secretary.
Many believe that she will follow in her father’s footsteps and run for governor of Arkansas in 2022.
“I’m going to continue to be one of the most outspoken and loyal supporters of the president and his agenda and I know he’s going to have an incredible six more years and get a lot more done,” Sanders said.
