Ted Cruz’s trip to Cancun, Mexico last week while millions of Texans were without power, heat, and water in freezing cold temperatures brought to the region by winter storm Uri just keeps getting worse.
At first, the Texas senator attempted to blame the trip on his daughters 10 and 12. In a statement, he made before returning from Cancun he wrote that his daughters had been invited by friends to take the trip and he was only being a “good dad” and escorting her to Cancun.
However, leaked text messages from his wife Heidi to neighbors clearly showed it was a family trip and that they were all planning to stay as a family at the luxurious Ritz Carlton hotel until Sunday. In the texts, Heidi Cruz bragged about the trip and invited the neighbor to go along. However, it has now been revealed that the Cruz’s did not make the trip alone.
Ted Cruz invited his close friend and former college roommate, David Panton, to join the family in Mexico. Panton made the decision to join the family on the mini vacation.
According to a report by Axios, “an aide tells Axios the senator extended the invitation-only after the Cruz family planned the vacation last Tuesday.”
Since returning early from Cancun, Cruz has been doing all he can to try and salvage his reputation including being photographed putting bottled water into a car.
Social media users are brutally mocking Sen. Ted Cruz after he posted the image of himself loading cases of bottled water into a vehicle. The image was clearly shared in an attempt to save the political damage done to his reputation after he flew to Cancun with his family on Wednesday as millions of Texans struggled to survive without power, heat, and water in freezing temperatures.
On Saturday, Cruz posted images showing him loading water into a car in an empty parking lot. He used the hashtag #TexasStrong.
It will be a difficult task for Cruz to win back support after abandoning his constituents and the family dog, Snowflake in the freezing cold.
The Cruz’s are starting to feel some of the consequences of their selfish decision and those consequences extend to his daughters.
The private school in Houston that his daughters attend has implemented a rule that children that have traveled out of the state or country must quarantine for 7 to 10 days before they can return to class.
St. John’s School’s policy won’t even allow students in quarantine to attend virtually. Reportedly there was a divide at the school between parents who followed the rules and those who ignored them and the Cruz family split that divide wide open.
“You start with the fact that there are people ticked off by those who think they’re the VIPs at this school who don’t want to be bothered to follow the rules because it infringes on their social life. Then you’ve got people on top of that who don’t like Ted Cruz,” Victoria Konar, a parent of a St. John’s student said. “And then you have everyone irritated because they’re freezing to death and can’t bathe and can’t eat and he’s going off to the Ritz Carlton in Cancun and lying about it.”
A spokesman from Cruz’s office stated that his daughters “plan to follow the St. John’s policy.”
