It’s almost impossible for people not to make jokes at the expense of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz since he puts himself in such awkward and hilarious situations on his own. Cruz is a target of public laughter from Twitter users to “Saturday Night Live.”
The senator’s recent remarks regarding Big Bird, the renowned canary from “Sesame Street,” are largely due to his furious reaction to the news that Big Bird, the famous canary from “Sesame Street,” had his first COVID-19 vaccination shot. Big Bird tweeted on November 6 to the tune of 287,000 likes and counting, “I got the COVID-19 vaccine today!” “My wing is a little uncomfortable, but it will provide an extra defensive boost to my body, which will keep myself and others healthy.” According to Britannica, the officially six-year-old yellow fella has been “receiving immunizations since I was a small bird.” Now that vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 have been allowed, the tweet is supposed to encourage them.
While many people praised Big Bird for keeping Sesame Street safe and establishing a positive example, not everyone agreed. Conservatives, in particular, were outraged, headed by Cruz, who described it as “government propaganda…for your 5-year-old!” on Twitter. Chelsea and Hillary Clinton were among those who weighed in on the debate. And the most recent jab is really funny, albeit NSFW.
The latest in Ted Cruz’s Twitter feud over his anti-Big Bird statements comes in the form of a new “children’s” book cover. It shows Big Bird disembarking from a plane at Cancun. “OMG WHO DID THIS?” one Twitter user exclaimed after seeing the cover. It’s from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” as it turns out.
On November 8, Jimmy Kimmel remarked on-air that Cruz tweeted against the bird (despite having been vaccinated) because he “desperately simply wants to be seen,” but “the reality is, I think Ted’s still furious about Big Bird’s most recent book.” Cruz’s escape to Cancun, Mexico in February, when his home state of Texas was plunged into freezing cold darkness due to an unusual winter storm and its collapsed power supply, was plainly referenced in the fictitious book. Cruz decided to run instead of helping his constituents.
The Twitter responses are most amusing. One response, via a gif that said “Save me from Ted Cruz #Freesnowflake,” and included Cruz’s poodle, Snowflake, who Cruz left alone at his Texas home while he accompanied the rest of his family to Cancun. “Vote for @SenatorBigBird,” another tweet said since he “won’t ditch us for Cancun!” Senator Big Bird appears to have a lot of support, as it refers to a parody Twitter account that was created on November 7 and already has 98,000 followers.
