Over the last several days it has become very apparent that the White House is targeting Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Recently, Fauci had been extremely vocal about concerns he has as cases of COVID-19 surge across the country. Fauci has also raised concerns about reopening the country for business and reopening public schools. His concerns undermine Trump’s attempts to open everything up amid the growing pandemic.
CNN reports that tensions are so high between Fauci and Trump right now that the two men are not speaking. The White House has made recent moves to try and diminish Fauci’s ability to warn the public about the government’s failure to properly contain the virus.
The White House’s efforts continued Monday morning when Trump shared a tweet by Chuck Woolery claiming that “everyone is lying” about the virus including the CDC in an attempt to stop Trump from being reelected.
As Fauci works diligently to get vital information to the public the White House is doing all it can to undermine him. It appears the White House has double-downed on Fauci after he gave the public a clear look at his relationship with Trump after sharing that they totally disagree on reopening the country and that they had not spoken in weeks.
The tensions continue to rise as the two men respond to each other’s statements through interviews. In a recent interview with Financial Times, Fauci disclosed that he had not briefed Trump in weeks.
Trump recently stated that “99%” of coronavirus cases in the United States were “totally harmless.” Fauci replied to that statement saying that is “obviously not the case.”
Trump has reportedly complained about Fauci privately. Trump is angry over the “good press” that Fauci receives. Trump’s anger towards Fauci has also been fanned by Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade advisor. Navarro blames Fauci for doubting the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine.
CNN reports that White House officials do not trust Fauci because he doesn’t have Donald Trump’s best interests as a priority. The officials seem to have forgotten that Fauci’s job isn’t to cater to Trump’s needs, but to help keep Americans safe and healthy.
