President Donald Trump took another shot at his predecessor Barack Obama today. This regarding U.S. efforts to contain a quickly spreading coronavirus. As he spoke during a meeting with airline executives at the White House on Wednesday.
Trump told, “The Obama administration made a decision on testing that turned out to be very detrimental to what we’re doing, and we undid that decision a few days ago so that the testing can take place at a much more accurate and rapid fashion. That was a decision we disagreed with. I don’t think we would have made it, but for some reason it was made. But we’ve undone that decision.”
Vice President Mike Pence backed him up saying, The last administration asserted FDA jurisdiction over testing and development of tests like this and the president changed that on Saturday.” Plus added, “So that now as I spoke to several governors this morning, states now have the ability to actually conduct the coronavirus test in state labs and university laboratories.”
The president apparently was referring to a regulation limiting the ability of laboratories run by states, universities and private companies to conduct screenings not approved by the FDA. Now, such labs are allowed to use independently developed tests.
“It’s really very, very important,” CDC director Robert Redfield said. “It’s what’s changed the availability of testing overnight.” Beyond that, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan $8.3 billion bill to battle the coronavirus outbreak.
While Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also expressed, “This moment calls for collaboration and unity.” In addition, “It’s time to give our public health experts and healthcare professionals the surge resources they need at this challenging time.”
Former Commander-in-Chief Obama took to Twitter this morning and posted: “Protect yourself and your community from coronavirus with common sense precautions: wash your hands, stay home when sick and listen to the @CDCgov and local health authorities. Save the masks for health care workers. Let’s stay calm, listen to the experts, and follow the science.”

As per usual, President Trump finds a reason to call out rival Obama. Expect a lot more where that came from.
