Senator Lisa Murkowski is in trouble with Donald Trump’s cult of supporters. She dared to think for herself, and that is not allowed in Trumplandia. It all started because Senator Murkowski (R-AK) gave an interview in which she was asked about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his plan to coordinate with the Trump White House when it came to conducting the impeachment trial once the articles are handed over to the United States Senate for consideration. McConnell has openly said that he has zero intention of conducting an impartial trial, and that he will be taking his cues from the White House. In response, Senator Murkowski said that she is “disturbed” by such a notion. In an interview with CNN, the Alaska Senator said:
“To me, it means that we have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense, and so I heard what leader McConnell had said, I happened to think that that has further confused the process.”
For her efforts at actually taking her oath of office seriously and doing her job as a member of a co-equal branch of government and not a slave to the Executive Branch, Murkowski got viciously attacked by Trump’s fans on Twitter. Here are just a few of the more caustic tweets she was treated to:

They even went after others who have dared to think outside the box a time or two, such as Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Susan Collins (R-ME). One person even invoked the devil:

The frightening part of this is that so many people are in a literal cult at this point. They don’t care if Trump did anything wrong, and they do not care if the republic functions as the Founding Fathers intended. They only care that Trump is protected from removal from office, whether by vote or by conviction in the impeachment trial. That should scare all of us for sure.
