Donald Trump appears to have fallen, hook line and sinker, for a satirical article that joked about Twitter shutting itself down to stop any damaging information about Joe Biden from spreading online.
On Friday morning, Trump shared an article published by the site The Babylon Bee titled “Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network To Slow Spread Of Negative Biden News”
Trump shared the article and captioned it, “Wow, this has never been done in history. This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this? Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T.”
The Babylon Bee is a satirical website for conservatives that makes fun of both Democrats and Liberals. The website’s Twitter page describes the website as “fake news you can trust.”
Twitter experienced a brief outage on Thursday and the article used the opportunity to link the outage to Wednesday’s decision to limit the spread of a New York Post article on Hunter Biden and his dealings with Ukraine.
Twitter stated that the New York Post article broke its policy on sharing information that has been hacked.
The Babylon Bee claimed in the article that Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey was panicking so he quickly shut down the website to stop further negative information about Joe Biden’s family from being spread online.
“Dorsey smashed a glass box in his office reading ‘Break In Case Of Bad Publicity For Democrats.’ Inside the case was a sledgehammer for smashing Twitter’s servers,” the article read.
Not long after Trump tweeted about the article, The Babylon Bee shared another article online titled: “President Trump Declares The Babylon Bee His Most-Trusted News Source.”
Several GOP senators stated that they plan to subpoena Dorsey to testify about Twitter’s decision to block the link to the New York Post article.
Trump has repeatedly pushed right-wing conspiracy theories on social media and Twitter has attached warnings to several of his posts that the information shared is misleading or false.
After Twitter slowed the spread of the New York Post article on Hunter Biden, Trump once again called for the repeal of Section 230, which is a bill that protects social media giants from bearing any legal responsibility for the content that is posted to its forum.
